"Los Angeles' premiere alternative video production and exhibition organization"- IFILM

"Since 1979, EZTV has been creating acclaimed low-budget, digital video projects that combine elements of traditional storytelling with experimental cinema."- Millimeter

EZTV was created in 1979 by the late filmmaker/writer/scholar John Dorr (1944-93) as a production company and exhibition venue for feature-length works created on video, making EZTV clearly one of the world's first microcinemas. EZTV's history is rich in creative milestones, and we have been honored to have worked with some of the leading artists, thinkers and producers in contemporary culture.

"the pioneering video showcase"- Los Angeles Times

Over the years, EZTV has been constantly re-defining itself. Today, under the direction of Michael Masucci & Kate Johnson, EZTV continues its creative exploration into the converging fields of storytelling, visual art and interactive media.

"consistently encourages artists to try new methods and approaches with video and its allied systems."- Artweek

EZTV serves as a home for a core group of video, digital and performing artists, as well as a temporary home to these collaborators and clients who use our services.

"a highly respected incubator for filmmakers"-TechTV.com

Since EZTV's earliest days, at at time when other video art spaces around the world ( such as New York's The Kitchen) focused on a certain genre of work, EZTV has always been non-genre specific.

"Unlike the Kitchen's emphasis on more experimental work, EZTV's programming covers the full spectrum of the electronic art including comedy, music and documentary"- The Dallas Morning News

EZTV received immediate critical acclaim both locally and nationally, as Los Angeles' home for filmmakers who had discovered the advantages of using video for their narrative & experimental features. EZTV quickly expanded its curatorial focus to include more computer-based works and through the effort of Masucci and a group of artists and activists known as the LA Digilantes, became an early public advocate of digital art.

"EZTV which supports artistic experimentation with new computer technologies, also supports work that falls between the worlds of traditional artfilm and commercial cinema"- Artweek

The name EZTV is slightly deceptive in nature, as there is nothing easy or simplistic about the works created here. It is a metaphor about the difference between the difficulties of the Hollywood studio system as compared to the ease of creativity in the independent spectrum. Visually sophisticated, narratively complex and dealing with issues that are both compelling as well as illuminating.

"I still have no idea what EZTV is, but I can hardly wait to go back"- West Hollywood Paper

EZTV strives to expand upon its considerable history with innovative new works for both the art as well as entertainment communities...

What we do:

An award-winning team of producers, artists, educators and curators work collaboratively
to create innovative new work and to advance the understanding of the ever-evolving relationship between media, technology and its audience.

"it has led the way in the fields of art as well as media."-Tekniikan Naloalat (translated from the Finnish by its author)

EZTV works collaboratively with writers, actors,

dancers, visual artists and musicians to create original works for television broadcast, museum exhibition, festivals and home video screenings. Works created by EZTV have been exhibited at venues such as The American Film Institute (Los Angeles), The Institute of Contemporary Art (London), and The Museum of Modern Art (New York). EZTV produces work throughout the world and has broadcasts on the BBC, BRAVO, PBS, The History Channel and many local TV outlets.

"Nothing less than opening up a whole new marketplace for a product that didn't even exist a decade ago."- Daily News

In addition, EZTV offers editing and other post-production services to the community and has provided creative and technical resources to places such as Carnegie Hall, The California Institute of the Arts, The Getty Center, The Lester Horton Awards, KCET, The Los Angeles County Museum of Art, The Los Angeles County Arts Commission, UCLA and thousands of individual artists and producers.

"The center of a burgeoning artform."- L.A. Style
